NOOOOOO! I want Conan the King!!!!

I still need to fill out the “about” column of this blog so you can know something about me. One thing that you should know is that I love movies! I even took two film classes when I was an undergrad (African-Americans in American Cinema pre WWII and post WWII). They passed for part of my GE requirement. I don’t claim to like good movies but I like a breadth of movies with the exceptions of horror films or reality-based films that make me leave the theater in a not-so-great mood. This blog post is about Arnold Schwarzenegger and perhaps my campaign into the ether for him to be Conan the King. He is age appropriate these days.
Growing up my dad loved it when the Conan movies came out (1982 and 1984). I gotta admit, I thought they were weird. However my dad loved them, so I loved them. I would saddle up next to him and veg out with the poor dialogue, questionable acting, but great concept for a fantasy genre.
If you need a refresher on this ossumniss peep this video…
The best was that the ending of the movies had Conan on a throne with the implication of further movies because a lot happened on his way to become king. The story of Conan is based on the writing of Robert E. Howard who spawned the Gnome Press series and the Marvel series. There are a lot of stories to choose from if anybody wants to make these films.
Well the Gubernator only made two films. I think he did Twins only four years after the Destroyer and eventually wormed his way into politics away from his sagging acting career. (O.k., maybe he did some successful Terminator movies after Twins, but Twins was so bad it has to be mentioned.) Fast forward to earlier this year when I learned that Gavin Newsom was putting in his bid for the California Governor election… I was ECSTATIC. This means that Arnie can go back to Hollywood and somebody could work on the Conan as King concept. I figure just offer the guy a chance for a working vacation in New Zealand with the people who helped produce Peter Jackson’s projects but let someone like Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) take the helm in the director’s chair. It could be beautiful.
Today is a day of immeasurable disbelief for me. I learned that a Conan movie is in the works. Talks of an Austrian who played Arnie in a biopic, who played a TV Terminator role, may end up playing Conan in the revival of the franchise. Shooting begins in the fall in Bulgaria.
Lionsgate and Nu Image/Millennium, please consider a Conan the King movie with Arnold. It really could be amazing!
If a Conan the King movie does not happen I suppose I will always have my favorite Arnold movie. Pumping Iron. I really do love this DVD.
